A landowner has been prosecuted by Bromley Council for failing to clear up mess on his land.
Tomasz Kmiecik was fined £1548 at Bromley Magistrates Court after failing to adhere to a Section 215 notice issued on Lullingstone Close in St Mary Cray, which a local authority can levy on a landowner if the the land or buildings are not maintained and are detrimental to the local area.
Kmiecik, ignored a deadline to clear away the mess by February and failed to attend court.
If a landowner does not pay the fine a charge can then be levied on the land.
Councillor Kate Lymer, Executive Councillor for Public Protection and Enforcement said, “Landowners need to be take responsibility for clearing their land. Not only can it be unsightly but it can also encourage others to dump rubbish, something no one wants. We always give ample time for the rubbish to be cleared and in this example, virtually a year has elapsed since we became aware of the rubbish. Further action will follow if this proves necessary.”
